Blogging for fundraising

Jenn Thompson writes on how blogs can be an effective medium for fundraising, and cites a few tips on blogging (from Marnie Webb):
- Pick people who like to write. The benefit of a blog is its immediacy and its voice.
- Use people who work on the programs of your organization. Their work is where the readers’ interest lies.
- Stay on topic. More focus will keep the audience and help people find the blog.
- Update your blog frequently. This keeps it more relevant and fresh in search results ratings.
- Be generous with links. Put links within your blog to your own sites and related sites.
- And simply, write good content. This is why your blog will be successful.
The tips are perhaps more apt for professional blogs, such as those
intended to serve as an alternative online voice of a firm, but are
also useful for individual bloggers or those who may be (intentionally
or not) closely identifed with a specific firm.
The writer concludes that “Your blog will be a reflection of your organization that isn’t easily matched by other tools available today.”
