Mark Cuban of Icerocket writes on Blogger/Blogspot’s being prone to spam blogs (which he aptly calls splogs–a term he coined himself recently):

It was exactly two months ago I wrote about problems that Icerocket.com and really, the entire blogosphere was having with Splogs created and maintained on Blogger.com, with a blogspot.com URL.

Well the Shit hit the fan today.

The blogosphere was hit by a blogspot.com splogbomb. Someone did the inevitable and wrote a script that created blog after blog and post after post.

Im not talking 100 blogs with a 100 posts each. Im talking what could easily turn into 10s of THOUSANDS of blogs pinging out millions of posts !

IMHO, any blogging service with too easy a sign-up system is prone to being a splog host.  And I agree with Mark that splogs are as polluting to the blogosphere as coal-fired power plants are to the atmosphere.

Splogging is usually done for SEO purposes.  Just another black-hat technique for earning that high Google pagerank.  But pretty soon it might be a cause for black-listing.
