Bold predictions for tech

I’ve been meaning to publish my bold predictions (a.k.a. fearless
forecasts) for tech for quite some time now, but it seems I’ve been
beaten to it by longtime tech columnist John C. Dvorak.  In his PC Magazine column on Windows Vista (the official name of the much awaited Windows Longhorn), Dvorak makes these predictions:

  • Apple will dominate the OS market with its shift to the x86-based platform;
  • Microsoft will dominate the entertainment field with its Xbox (as well as the productivity apps, with its ubiquitous Office suite);
  • Linux will dominate the server space; and,
  • Google will dominate the online world.

My sentiments exactly, especially the first two points.  I have to
add that Apple may as well also dominate IP-based multimedia
distribution, indicative of the effects of the company’s recent release
of a podcast-friendly iTunes (version 4.9).  Apple’s release of
this iTunes version garnered their podcatcher client at least 50% volume of all pod/video-casts downloaded.  That’s a big overnight turnout.

I’ll be anticipating that time when I can already install MacOS on my intel-based machines.
