Had a chat–or email exchange, actually–with Jove Francisco, ABC5 reporter with that enviable (or not?) Malacañang beat.

We exchanged our insights on some issues facing the present

administration, and the prima donna attitude of some pinoy bloggers

(whom we won’t mention at this time), among others.  While I’m not

much into watching

TV, I found it good to hear that ABC5 is not much into ratings in its

programming, but more on quality content.  They go beyond press

releases (which the present administration is known to be soooo fond

of, but mostly without follow-through or actual implementation) and

get in-depth with the stories they cover.  And it’s heartwarming

to hear they don’t go for the yellow journalism most other news

programs resort to just to gain market share and ratings, such as

overly emphasized police reports and those silly/stupid stories that,

IMHO, don’t merit reporting on national TV (especially the exaggerated

showbiz items).  Let’s not mention the two major competing

networks that are quite guilty of this.  You know who you are, ABS-CBN and GMA!  Oops.

I intended to leave a comment on his post on First Gentleman (?) Mike Arroyo’s MGM Grand Suite Hotel Controversy, but Blogger

was having problems processing my request  at this time.

I’ll post in the morning, but here’s what I intend to write:

But after this, who will believe his wife again when she goes

around the country telling the people to sacrifice some more? How can

she say this with a straight face now, when the fellow she goes home

to, is the first person to snub or disregard the call?

You hit it right where it hurts, man!  Things like these call for delicadeza or prudence.  Austerity my

foot!  This is one of the reasons I left government–I felt the

administration was no longer sincere in pursuing its developmental

goals.  Malacanang says one thing but does exactly the

opposite.  Or does nothing at all.  I wonder how the

administration of press releases would clean up this mess (I think they

don’t feel they have to).

Anyway, you do look familiar.  You do have a striking resemblance

to Mikey Arroyo from a certain angle.  Haha. =)  Seriously, I

do think I’ve seen you one time or another at Malacanang in my days of

backstopping the NEDA Director General during NEDA Board meetings.

More power to you, Jove.
