[...] I’m at our new apartment right now, since we’re transferring some of our stuff (hey, it’s only three houses down after all, so a gradual move would do). I was actually surveying the scene again for active WiFi hotspots and this time I brought the PowerBook, and this time I found a signal. It was a bit weak, though, and it only reached the room facing the back of the lot. Hey, at least I’m connected. And it’s at the right place, since this is where I intend to set up my new home office, anyway. [...]

Netgear Gmodelno. something (hehe) is a good all around router daw. hehe sorry forgot the model no. eh.

Actually I asked for a appplication slip last tuesday and it was delivered to my house the next day (coool! also paid the initial payment sa runner nila) then kanina they installed the bayantel line. kaso yung modem installer was reschedule tom (huhuhu) kasi I wasn't at home and The sales Agent didn't call me up as I requested to tell me the day na ikakabit ang net ko. So ngayon waiting for the installer. can't sleep nanaman ako nito haha. i'm still using SmartBro, Kaso papapull out ko na to by next week (pagtapos na yung contract ko and I have to pay 300 pesos for extra 10 days, grrr..)

Thanks for the comments, everyone! I have yet to go to Bayantel on Monday (walking distance from here, actually) to see how easy it is to apply for a line. Thing is, I'm kind of worried about having to present proofs of billing and even IDs, since all my utility bills have my current address. I don't know how difficult it can be to present proof of billing for a new apartment (we're not actually the first tenants), especially since it's not under my name.

@Sonnie, how is speak & surf? I can't share that thru a router, can I?

@kid, thanks for the info. I didn't know that! I use a PhP 1.7k Bayantel DSL and it was originally 512Kbps. I'll have to test to see if bandwidth has been upgraded, indeed.

@jepoy, how does one connect to a cable modem? Thru ethernet, too? I'm not so sure about cable, as I'm concerned about reliability and consistency when it comes to speed. I wouldn't want my 'net to crawl when there are many users already among my neighbors. But I'll keep that as an option.

@Andre and Anne, apparently you're among the silent majority of PLDT DSL subscribers who are satisfied! :P

@vance, do tell me how it goes! When I applied for Bayantel here, it took them three weeks to come and get us connected. Well, it was Christmas vacation/party season after all. But we're an existing Bayantel subscriber, so it should've been easy (Actually, it was. The actual install only took a few minutes.).

I use a netgear mr214 v3 here. I can actually take it with me since it's technically mine. But I might want to go for an upgrade (all my devices are WiFi G now).

Well, if your looking for a Router try looking for Netgear and Linksys. I heard Netgear is ok, kaso some models aren't available locally (I think).

Well, I just applied with bayantel last wednesday, and until now i don't know kung kailan ikakabit, hehe. oh well sabi namn nila til monday ang latest (wag naman busy ako noon with scholl stuff).

the next thing is call Globe hehe, they have stable connection and faster at that too... ( i'm not speaking of speak and surf)
P999 512KB Connection, and no installation fee even if you apply for Data package.

Mydestiny is also ok but morning, sometimes at the afternoon and evening speed are slow, it will reach 1 Mbps to 2 Mbps by midnight till early in the morning.
