Am currently installing Windows XP Service Pack 2

on my portable machine.  I’m hoping the installation doesn’t screw

up my system.  It’s always best to install SP2 over a fresh

installation of XP, since some newer drivers or applications may cause

some conflicts.  But in this case, I’ll try to get it working on

my existing installation first.  If that fails, then it’s

reinstall time for me.

If you’re not too well-versed with manually instituting security

measures on your machine (such as spyware blockers, antivirus and

firewalls), then SP2 is definitely a must-have.  You can either

turn on automatic updates (but downloading patches via a slow connection takes forever), download the 270+ MB installer, or have someone with the installer burn a disc for you.
