So now I’m an enemy of the state? Chanced by this post on ISAW (Internet Security And Warfare):
The Sassy Lawyer
(houseonahill.net), J Spot (jangelo.i.ph), PCIJ (pcij.org) and
Albrine (alberttagaban.com) are victims of hack attacks! Attacks that
aim to stop them from posting what they believe is right. These attacks
are tantamount to assasinations of media people to silence them.
We should not take this lightly as the above bloggers are not the only
victims of the attacks but everyone of us in the blogging world. We
should work together to pin down the attackers, the government is
useless in running after them for who knows maybe some of the attacks
are even sanctioned by them.
Did you notice the timing of the attack
against the PCIJ blog?
We could not trust the useless agencies tasked by the President to go
after the hackers. We should be the one going after them and hacking
them in return.
I
agree with cyber-friar that we should actively condemn these attacks if indeed sanctioned by
government. The PCIJ blog hacking was indeed
very timely, as it was done at about the time when President Arroyo was
making her apology speech.
The PCIJ Blog has
had an extensive coverage of every issue hounding the Administration,
to the point of providing transcripts and copies of the audio
recordings of the most recent scandal dubbed Gloriagate (but which I prefer to call Wiretapgate). Sassy Lawyer is likewise known to post on current issues, and providing commentaries (often critical ones). But while Albrine
and I have been posting with occasional references to political and
governance issues, we are not overly and overtly critical of the
Administration. In fact, I usually only present outlines of known
issues, leaving the readers to make their own opinions. In short,
I don’t think my writings would merit a crack attack sanctioned by
government.
But this is quite an interesting conspiracy theory. Bring ‘em all down so their voices could be silenced, eh?
At any rate, I can say that the timing of the attack on my site was
probably coincidential. The system had a security loophole which
was likely already well-known to the hacking community. Try
searching google for /blogcms/forum/install.php and my site would come up as the first result (of course, we cleared our system of all known vulnerabilities already).
But with this hole probably already known to hackers even
beforehand, why did the cracker choose June 23 and 24 to attack my site?
Starstruck? Let's go star tripping.
