GMail now supports sign-ups from the Philippines

Good news to fellow Filipinos or those residing in the Philippines: GMail now supports sign-ups even without an invite. You just need to key in your mobile number so the system can send you an activation code over SMS.

While this feature had been working for the Americas for quite some time now, it’s only now I noticed it supporting Philippine numbers.

Gmail Philippine SMS signup

I do hope Google gets to work on new SMS/mobile-related features soon.

We’re also working on some new mobile features that will make your Google account more useful and secure, such as SMS alerts and password recovery. When you sign up using your mobile phone, you can choose to save your number with your account so you can use these features as soon as they become available.

I’d sure love mobile alerts for my urgent emails.
