HP Mini Note Spotting

Author: J. Angelo Racoma Category: Archives Views: 2418

Finally! I’ve been searching high and low for a real live unit. Now I’ve finally seen one. It’s the HP 2133 Mini Note—the entry-level Linux version.

This one was spotted at an electronics retail store in Trinoma in Quezon City, selling for the SRP of PhP 24,9xx.

So far, I haven’t seen any other stores currently carrying the mini note in stock.

I have a demo unit here at the office, preloaded with Vista (have to check what version it is). This only has a 3-cell battery and it seems the running time is less than 2 hours.

Will have to test further.

Hi Arthur,

Yes, saw your post at TPC. I wonder if the 3-cell configuration is the default retail configuration here. Anyway, I’ve already reserved a unit, and I’m waiting for it to arrive. I’m not sure if it has the 3 or 6 cell pack, though.

Most of the people who saw the 2133 liked it. One feature that they immediately notice is the rather large keyboard as compared to Asus eee. But behind my mind, wait ‘tll they see the MSI Wind hahaha.

After seeing the MSI Wind, I’ve changed my mind. Appearance-wise HP Mini note is cooler due to its aluminum finish. The Wind looks plasticky.

Yup. The Wind looked promising in terms of specs (i.e., Intel Atom), but when I checked the stores the other day they only had the three-cell batteries, which translated to only about 2.5 hours uptime. For me, battery life is a big thing. My old Eee 701 could run up to 3.5 hours on a single charge.

Anyway, it looks like the Acer Aspire One has been launched locally at a starting price of PhP 18,800. That could be serious competition for the Eee, the Wind and the Mini Note.
