Got quite a nifty surprise this morning. The mailman brought over the Ubuntu Linux installation and live CD’s I had requested a few weeks back.
In all I got 20 sets for Intel x86, 10 sets for AMD 64 and 10 sets for PowerPC (for Macs). I have version 5.04.
I was thinking I’d never get the CDs; I actually forgot about requesting for them.
If anyone would like a copy, please drop me a line. I’m sure we
can arrange for a quick meeting or delivery to your place. Might cost a nominal amount, but it’s definitely faster
than having to wait a few weeks for Ubuntu to send over new copies (they’re now at version 5.10 preview)
What is Ubuntu? From the website:
Ubuntu is a complete Linux-based operating system, freely available with both community and professional support.
The Ubuntu community is built on the ideas enshrined in the Ubuntu
Manifesto: that software should be available free of charge, that
software tools should be usable by people in their local language and
despite any disabilities, and that people should have the freedom to
customise and alter their software in whatever way they see fit.
Think science. Science think.
