Here’s an interesting perspective by Peter N. Glaskowsky. Yes, industry analysts (and bloggers) almost always include this in their speculations on Apple’s decision to switch from PowerPC to Intel x86-based
chips when publishing commentaries. But Mr. Glaskowsky (quite a
hard read) rules out Apple’s wanting to gain leverage over IBM, trying to save up on processor costs, or performance considerations.
He believes it’s all about market share. Apple’s after the big prize.
I’ve been reading up quite extensively on this topic (and listening to
podcasts also), and I could say that it’s really stirred up quite a
hornet’s nest in the international I.T. community and even the
media. I’ll be posting more on this topic, but you can refer to
the apple category in my del.icio.us linkblog for links to stuff I’d been reading on.
The clincher: “Apple’s future includes less RISC, but more risks.”
Help save the environment with new green thoughts!
