The PCIJ Blog

was recently cracked, and I’m renaming and editing this entry.  I

was foolish enough to cite “A Hacker’s Journey” without first verifying

if the article was legit.  But I did smell something fishy with the

way the post was written and the fact that the author was not a PCIJ

fellow nor contributor.

So a few minutes after posting the blog entry (below), I texted Alecks Pabico to check if the article were indeed legit.  And the response: the PCIJ Blog had been broken into!

Read a hacker’s journey by rebz, as posted on PCIJ Blog.  Rebz has quite a good definition of who a hacker is supposed to be:

I consider myself a hacker because I’m after the knowledge to be gained.

PCIJ announces the following in its blog entry for this morning:

The attack, however, came as no surprise to us, having been made aware

by some of our sources that certain quarters since last week have been

trying to get the services of hackers to take our blog down. We can

only surmise why. Since the controversy surrounding the supposed taped

conversations between Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Comelec

Commissioner Virgilio Garcillano broke out in the news, our blog has

been providing access to the audio files and transcripts of the tape

versions to an information-hungry public.

So did the cracker make the exploit on behest of the

Administration?  At this point, I can only speculate.  Any

information, Alecks?
