One of the main come-ons of a blogging package/solution is the ability to publish RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds. I would expect any blogger intent on making his or her word more available to the reading public to do so (as if I would expect a large readership, heheheh).
When I first started my i.ph trial, though, I presumed the service did not offer RSS feed publishing, since the feature was not included in the “easy-setup” mode (unlike in Blogger, for instance, when the atom publishing is a feature directly accessible through the configure menus) . But since I had, after all, considered i.ph to be more customizable than other blogging packages, I thought there MUST be a way to enable RSS feeds (which, by default is disabled). After a few days of tweaking and trial and error, I’ve finally been able to make RSS work. It was just a matter of copying some .PHP files from the ./blogcms folder to either the root (/) folder or the blog folder (in case of multiple blogs), and revising some of the “include” paths. The links to the default PHP files can be found in the “RSS” extraskin, so I thought of adding these to my sidebar already, through the extraskin tag (accessible when manually editing skins).
Great! Now what?
To publicize my weblog, I usually include the blog URL in my email signatures, and I also sometimes include XML feeds through feedburner in my forum signatures via headline animators (check this out:
), hence I edited my feedburner profile accordingly.
What next?
I also edited my RSS templates for a better look and feel, though I would still need more revisions on these (not to mention trial runs to see if the feeds work as well as I intend them to).
My RSS feeds are available through these URLs:
RSS: 0.9
http://jangelo.i.ph/xml-rss.php
RSS 1.0
http://jangelo.i.ph/xml-rss1.php
RSS 2.0
http://jangelo.i.ph/xml-rss2.php
ATOM
http://jangelo.i.ph/atom.php
RSD (Really Simple Discovery)
http://jangelo.i.ph/rsd.php
For the RSS links, you may add “?full=yes” at the end of the URL to download entries in full (and not just summaries). Links are also accessible via the sidebar at the left.
If anyone would need help in RSS publishing, in particular with i.ph, please feel free to contact me. =)
