Just got word from Bayantel DSL customer service that they have increased speeds across the board. New plan speeds are as follows:
Apparently new subscribers as of Nov 1st of this year are getting these packages already. Existing subscribers have to request for an upgrade, which I find very inconvenient and unfair (because we don’t get it automatically). Still, this is a good move on Bayantel’s part, especially considering that their competitors are also increasing speeds.
Here’s one of my latest speedtest results:

1It will take 24 hours to take effect daw. It is a bit of a hassle, but I hope it’ll be worth it. 768kbps hardly feels snappy anymore.

3this was already been going around the net for a week or so before it was actually confirmed.
Admittedly, it was a good move since this should have been done earlier this year when every competitors have upgraded their plans.
I’m getting 768kbps on morning and 1.2 mb during SOD.
by the way, the Plan 2560’s old speed which was 2mb not 1.5mb. which was upgraded to 2.5mbps
To upgrade, you have to either call 411200 or e-mail csdip@bayan.com.ph

6I still got 384kbps(or lower) on my speed test. Im just wondering if the upgrade is a automatic system that every bayantel subscriber should have, without prior notice to bayantels customer service.

7Called tech support the other day. FYI. the new plans are all using Dynamic IP. If u have an old acct then ur (usually) assigned a Static IP
While I would instantly jump at the chance for a plan with a higher speed and a lower price range, this piece of info got me thingking.
I’m not currently hosting any websites at the moment but I’d probably stick to my old plan with the Static IP. It’s a shame that they won’t at least adjust my monthly bill to fit the current plan even if I retain my old speed.

9The upgrades are not that fast, sometimes I get 450kbps download speed with a 86ping, I’m wondering if the dsl modem got something to do with this, and, is DSL different from ADSL?

11letter to bayantel:
i heard that new subscribers wont have an expiration for their speed on demand feature.
well im a loyal sky/ bayantel dsl user. my SOD is expired coz ive been using your services for almost 2 years.
don’t u think we guys should also deserve the no expiration SOD also?
i was asking the operator in 4112000. she said they have been requesting that issue but you guys are not doing anything about it.
so much for the loyalty? more of the sales.
prove us wrong. do something.

12This is so unfair. Why do existing subscribers have to request for it? It should be automatic. Grabe. More than 3 years na kaming DSL subscriber ng BayanTel [and a landline subscriber for more than a decade].
Anyway, we only have to request for it right? We DON’T have to change settings or have a technician come over to do something, right? I guess OK na ako dito… pero sana man lang ibigay nila sa customers nila what they are paying for, hindi ‘ung ganito na kailangan pang i-request.

—- Yes, you only have to make a request, but u have to make a written one. It would be nice if you could just do it over the phone.
I also find this really inconvenient. Sana they had the courtesy to send a letter(maybe along with the bill) informing us of any new plans that would present itself.
Good thing though is that mabilis nila gawin ung changes. In my experience at least. Fastest request I had that was acted upon was within 4 hrs.(made the request letter on the spot sa ofc nila kasi ayaw ko na ng pabalik-balk). Longest was 24 hrs.

Agreed and agreed. I didn’t even see any advertisements about it. Dito ko lang nabasa, to be honest.
Pero yes, they act on it really fast. I was surprised to receive a reply to my e-mail in less than an hour. And in less than 3 hours, ayun:

17Good Move on the part of Bayantel, at least competent naman yung company. Bad thing is lagi pa rin may problem yung International connections nila kahit na upgrade na yung speed ko na 3 months na palang ineenjoy nung iba, (nalaman ko lang nung may makita akong poster ad nila along the road as I was travelling in Q.C.) tuloy sobra bagal lagi ng down/upload ko, siguro marami na talaga subscriber dito sa Abad Santos, Tondo, Manila, and the worst di na bumalik sa dati yung Ping ko which is crucial for online gaming. Dati 390ms sa USA servers now 580ms. Pag nagupgrade na rin ng Speed yung other competitor sigurado lipat na ko.

19With regards to the Bayantel Wireless landline service – I have several friends who were duped into getting the service – it sucks. Big time. Even in the Makati area – their service isn’t good and drops in the middle of a conversation and I need to keep calling the bayantel number like 5 times just to get a connection. Its really frustrating during urgent times and emergencies. Bayantel wireless landline sucks and I would advise everyone else to not get the service. Calling via cellphone networks might be more expensive but its less frustrating than Bayantel service and there’s always a connection via cellular phones unlike this wireless landline service. Bayantel should improve their signal and connections. Until then, my opinion of their service stays – it stinks and it sucks.

20Hello. hindi nio nmn kc kailangn i push forward kng maguupgrade man ng speed and bayan eh. they have their limit tapos isabay nio pa sa limit ng inet nio. try tweaking ur tcp ip to accpt more and through put more din. some browser tweak also improve the browsing lalo na pag sa mtu. kapag nag upgrade ang bayan ng kanilng speeds it means only one thing. dumadami na ung subscribers nila. so they have to increase some of its bandwith a little. about dun sa mga numerals i doubt it will affect you a lot kc may kahati ka pa rin lalo na subscriber line pa rin ang gamit mo. dun lang kayo hindi talo sa upload well enjoy .. bb

25This bayan dsl really sucks
it’s not availiable in tondo so we just subscribe to PLDT MyDSL Plan990 – Unlimited 384kbps, bayan dsl Plan899 is really interesting because of their speed of 768kbps – 1280kbps – much cheaper and faster than PLDT Plan990. but how can people from here purchase it, do they don’t want our money.

27I suggest switching to globe or smartbro if your location is in tondo. My BayanDSL is blipping in and out of the internet scene, specially at peak time you barely get online. Never in my subscription I was able to connect during important times. Kung di important sayo yung connections e mag Bayantel ka. And never use Bayantel for gaming kasi lagi ka kick, ayaw ng iba players yung Laggg.

29Crap! Yesterday this thread gets to be 1 year old!
and I’ve only came across this today! I just called bayantel for the upgrade, now I have to wait 24 hours to see if there’s a difference in speed.
Just recently my net starts to fluctuate, that’s the reason why I’ve been roaming around the net for answers, and good God! I’ve stumbled upon this! Thx for the heads up guys

31I rarely have any problems with my Bayan DSL, everytime they upgrade their speeds, it’s just a simple call to them and 24 hours later, the upgrade is implemented. You do not need to request it in paper. BTW, I had my DSL when they started at 256kbps, PLDT only had 128kbps at 990, then upgraded to 384 and then 768.
when my ZTE modem broke down, they replaced it. no charge because there’s no signs of wear and tear.

may tumawag sa bahay namin na taga-Bayantel, tas nagtanong pa kung gusto daw ba namin ipa-upgrade yung connection namin for free. malamang di ba? bakit ba kelangan pang itanong. hindi ba pwedeng automatic na lang? hassle eh. tas after 1 year pa?! ayos. haha.

38Just got connected to BayanDSL just before christmas, bought myself a Dlink wireless router to maximize the use in the house. Just cant configure the router. bayan DSL cant connect to “192.168.0.1” as instructed by the manual. Can this router work with the BayanDSL connection, or it only works for PLDT cSLs’?
jam
January 8th, 2009 at 10:16 am
39usually, home routers will use 192.168.1.1, but if your dlink said 192.168.0.1, then it will connect. the problem with bayan dsl modems is that when they release it now, they turn DHCP off on the router. you cannot expect bayantel to give you the username and password for the modem to turn on dhcp (wifi routers when connected to dsl modems with pppoe connections need dhcp on the modem to work. there is a way though. just use your modem’s model number as a guide to help you out. good luck!

41check my speed test “at home in Philippines”
http://www.xmodx.com/linux-system-admin/pldt-mydsl-at-trapiche-oton-iloilo-philippines/
time of test 7:15 am
so far i have no problem on my PLDT DSL, im working as a Linux System Administrator on a Software Company based in Florida, and im using Linux Operating System, as far as experience i can say that Internet Speed Slows down because of Trojan’s and Spywares. typical for windows users, i would suggest people who are not I.T. Techies make it a habit that you have a computer programmer friend who can help maintain your computer at least once a month, i would suggest a programmer not computer technician even if they have similar knowledge about computers still technician’s specialty is on hardwares not on programs, and its best if you have both =)

42i’ve called bayantel about 4 times since January. they said they upgraded my connection december. until now my speed still clocks 300+kb/s, thereabouts. before they upgraded I was clocking 700+! I called them this afternoon again, gave me the turn-off modem, reset process, and still 385kb/s. what gives?

45same here, bayandsl sucked when i requested for an upgrade from 384 kbps to 768kbps, it keeps on disconnecting in the morning, pinagawa ko na lahat ng ways para d madc paulit ulit, like ung sa dropwire, kasi before nung unang kabit nila d2 sa bahay, hindi buo ang cable na nilagay parang tapped between two telephone poles papnta sa bahay, (para sa mga nag papakabit ng dsl dpat ung dropwire nyu or ung dsl cable directa dun sa cabinet mismo ng telepono hindi ung drop wire, nandadaya sila sa cable length) so un nga pinapalitan ko na yang cable knowing na uyn ang may prob, pinalipat ko pa ung dp mismo kasi nababasa so baka may problem dun , and after doing all these things, useless pa rin kasi dc ng dc. putol ng putol ang connection, sawa na nga ko sa pagtawag sa technical office nila, kuha mng kuha sa kin ng info tapos wala ring nangyayari, ang hula ko kaya nangyayari ang mga disconnection na yan dahil ung bandwidth mismo na nakaalot sa isang subscriber ay shinashare or inooverlap nila with other subscribers, so ang nangyayari ung bandwidth nating mga subscribers naliit even though ung connection ntin mblis, puro pandaraya

49we also encountered the same problem.. actually we apply for business and i thought that we will have a better connection since we’re paying higher thatn those residential account but then i was wrong.. like what i’ve heard from our neighbors here they also had this prob. either slow connection or intermittent… this is really unreliable and inconvinient.. bec. you were paying the right amount but the level of service is unfair..
they said that bayandsl is good for the first few days and for the next “?????????????????????????????” DONT KNOW
can you check.. coz’ we’ve heard here n kumukuha lng ang bayantel dsl s PLDT.. Is that TRUE?... PLZZZZZZZZZ research!

51i just want to suggest sana everytime merong problem with the internet, sana merong discount naman kami mga subscribers and sana the bill must be computed according to the number of days the internet is available pra naman hindi unfair. i remember kasi there was a time na merong maintenance ang Bayan but we are not adviced and the internet is not available for almost 8 hours.

56‘Have been a subscriber for more 2 years I believe. I didn’t have a problem w/ bayandsl since a couple of months ago. speed has really gone down to a crawl, specially during office hours and early evening.
During late evening upto early morning speeds are upto par with their ads and competitors. 1am – 4am at times exceeds my subscribed speed. This maybe due to their (SOD) promo? Even though i don’t turn the feature on.
Their after sales service is best ; one day after a complaint their service crew is there checking everything – however – i need the speed. So, I’ll give them a month or two, see if this improves – if not then I’ll have to shift to another ISP.
From my understanding, this problem is based as per area ; the more subscribers in the area – the slower the connection would be as connections are shared.
My area as per router:
Sat Jun 13 17:28:32 2009 PADO recv 0016 PROJ8-PE2-ST50
I assume this includes proj 6 area as well as I am in proj 6 but a few hundred meters away from the boundary of Proj 8.
So in conclusion – BayanDSL business (i assume) is good ; but for people like me who were first to subscribe in the area are suffering the consequence – hence – If you are near Proj 6 to Proj 8 area then I would look for another ISP.
