Had to register my Sun prepaid under the 24/7 scheme
again today. My registration had expired last March 24, and I had
unwittingly made several calls and quite a number of SMS messages after
that without this knowledge. No wonder the drain on my prepaid
load.
Anyway, I thought I saw adverts on the newspapers that Sun’s 24/7 rates had indeed increased. Verified this with Sun’s 24/7 FAQ page
also. This is all right, IMHO, since it will effectively be
limiting 24/7 subscribers to those who are really heavy users, and
hence freeing up some network resources (problem with making something
so cheap is that the quality of service would most likely degrade).
It’s good to note that Sun also offers the unlimited service for SMS
only, for those heavy on SMS, but not on calls. Probably in
response to similar offerings by Globe and Smart.
Also, heard from the grapevine: Globe will start offering an unlimited scheme with its regular network (not only under the TM brand) (registration may be required to read this page)! From the BuynCell forums, a repost of an email received by a forumer:
GLOBEs’ ALL YOU WANT
Please be advised that
Globe’s All You Want promo will be on soft-launch tomorrow, March 22,
2005. There will be no communication to the public. For inquiries
regarding the promo, you may inform them about the details of the promo
1. This promo is open to all GHP Prepaid subscribers including SIM swappers.
2.
GHP Prepaid subscribers must REGISTER first to avail of the promo. The
account balance should be at least Php 301 when they register to the
promo.
Text 300 to 2870.
3. The amount will be deducted
automatically from the existing balance. GHP Prepaid subscribers must
maintain a minimum account balance of 1 to enjoy the promo.
4. A
confirmation message will be sent to inform subscribers to wait for an
activation message within 24 hours. This activation message will inform
them that they can already start using the Plan as well as its expiry
date and time.
5. Registering to the promo will NOT change the load expiry. The load expiry will be dependent on the last reload made.
Also read, though, that the system is still having glitches at this
time. Quite as expected, since it has still to be
soft-launched. Kudos to Globe for the effort! I hope these
unlimited schemes are here to stay. Filipino consumers deserve
good service at a reasonable price. And the unlimited-scheme-war
among the three major mobile telcos would most likely bring about just
this (after the glitches and degraded service that usually come with
the initial introduction of the unlimited schemes are solved).
At any rate, I just hope Sun had informed its subscribers via SMS
early on, for the benefit of those who don’t have access to other media.
