Last Friday was a blast.  Or was it?  People have been asking

how

my birthday celebration went, and I could only answer “it was

ok.”  In fact, we at home have enforced some austerity measures of

our own due to burgeoning financial pressures.  It’s easy to blame

it on the economy and the difficult financial situation most of our

citizens are in given a distribution of resources that highly favors an elite few (a high Gini ratio in econ-speak).  But it’s also due to numerous other factors.


Frankly, June of the past couple of years has been riddled with financial difficulties for me personally.  Is it seasonal?


At any rate, June has at least three good things to offer for me and my family.  It’s birthday month for Caren,

Pia and myself (Cate is a January girl).  And we feel no need to

call for grandiose affairs to celebrate our natal days.  Simple

gatherings with those who count are definitely more worth it.


So if you were to ask how my birthday celeb went?  I’d say I had a blast.  I got to spend quality time with my family.
