[...] I guess this relates to a thought about the concept simplicity I previously wrote about, particularly in terms of designing software or–yes–even blogs. You can choose to define simplicity as being bare, devoid of any complex features or functionality. Or you can choose to define simplicity as being powerful and feature-laden, but with a straightforward interface that a user won’t have to fumble through. [...]

I just got an ibook this year and was quite surprised to my attachment to it. I couldn't get a handle why i preferred it over the PC now. I've always thought it was because it was cool and had better graphics, was efficient and virus-free.

But now I have an answer: it's just donwright SIMPLE! As all things should be.

When I was still in college I loved high tech gadget with many features. As I matured, a began to appreciate simplicity. When I had a laptop, I didn't like installing too many software. I deliberately decided to minimize the software I needed. I then discovered that I could actually get by with just using Notepad and MS Paint for most of my tasks. It loaded much faster and still is useful. Amusing but true.

I always think of Nokia's menu systems whenever I hear the word simplicity and it's relative usability. My first phone was a Siemens something, back when the Nokia 3210 was still the staple model. I have a knack for figuring out how to use e-gadgets without consulting the manual first, but that Siemens phone really gave me a headache! So I told my mother to have it returned to the store and exchange it for a Nokia 3210. I loved it so much I had it for nearly 5 years.
